‘KIDS OF KLAGON’ DOCUMENTARY
I am producing a documentary on the lives of children in Klagon, created with the Welcome Home Foundation to raise funds and give disadvantaged kids a real chance at education, safety, and hope. I spent two weeks living alongside these children. Each of them carries a unique personality, a spark, a sense of humour and quiet strength. They all have extraordinary potential. This documentary seeks to confront the reality facing today’s disadvantaged children and to show how, with the right support, they can still access education, stability, and the chance to thrive. For me, this is deeply personal — a commitment to truth, to humanity, and to using my craft to help create the change. It’s the reason why I became a photographer.
WELCOME HOME FOUNDATION
The Welcome Home Foundation supports children who carry adult responsibilities just to survive, by giving them a chance to just be kids. To play, have fun, to learn, understand their emotions, and help them navigate life. But most importantly a safe space.
The documentary will reflect on Kwame Nkrumah’s vision for universal free education — from tuition‑free elementary schooling in 1952 to the 1961 Education Act — and asks what has gone wrong, and how we can ensure today’s disadvantaged children still receive the education they deserve.
